黑虎泉位于南护城河东端南岸陡壁下。该泉为一天然洞穴，古时洞前有一黝黑巨石，泉水激石，有如虎啸。加之巨石又似一踞伏的猛虎，故得"黑虎"之名。后来人们在洞北砌一方池，在池南壁雕刻了三只活灵活现的虎头。泉水通过洞底暗道，从三个大张的虎口中喷涌而出，泻入池内。
The Black Tiger Spring is located under the precipitous cliff on the south bank, at the east end of the south city moat. It was a natural cave with a huge black rock in front in ancient times. When the spring water beat the rock, it sounded like roar of a tiger. And because the huge rock looked like a tiger too, the spring got its name, “Black Tiger”. Then people built a pool with heads of three tigers on the wall in the North of the cave. The water runs through the underground channel into the mouth of the tigers pouring down into the pool.
黑虎泉泉群，有泉水15处，除黑虎泉外，著名的还有琵琶泉、白石泉、玛瑙泉、九女泉、五莲泉等。
